Abstract

The present work aims to assess the effectiveness of the Sentence Reading Comprehension Test (SRCT) and the Sentence Hearing Comprehension Test (SHCT) in evaluating comprehension skills of written and spoken sentences through Internet application. The secondary aim was to verify possible dissociation between the comprehension of written information and decoding of auditory information. Results show that the tests discriminate the performance among school grades with the increase of score along the first four years of basic education. Correlations analyses show a positive correlation between the correct answer in SRCT and SHCT. This way, the described tests can be used for regular assessment of students’ reading skills and also as an evaluation instrument for differential diagnosis in the case of reading impairment. Thus, it is also possible to identify a possible dissociation between the reading comprehension and auditory information decoding.
