Abstract

The study aimed to carry out an integrative review of the literature on Theory of Mind assessment tools for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder between 2018 and 2023 through the CAPES Journal Portal, which includes several national and international databases. Eighteen articles were selected considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria using the combination of the following descriptors in English and their respective terms in Portuguese, using the Boolean operators (AND) and (OR), with the following combinations: Autism Spectrum Disorder (OR) ADS (AND) Theory of mind (OR) Social Recognition (END) Assessment (OR) Instrument (AND) Adult. The variability of assessment instruments for this population was noted, and 16 different tasks used in international contexts were identified. The results highlight the prevalence of instruments focused on the cognitive paradigm. However, classic tests such as the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET) and the Strange Stories Film Task were the most widely used in the studies. In addition, there has been a slight increase in tasks that seek to assess the integrative paradigm of ToM.
