Hardiness, Health Psychology, Academic Adaptation, Psychological AdjustmentAbstract
The university population is considered a group with high vulnerability to illness due to experiencing various stressors in the academic environment. The hardiness personality profile has been considered an important tool for adjusting to academic challenges. The general objective of this review study is to analyze hardiness from the perspective of Health Psychology with an emphasis on the university public. To this end, a theoretical review of a narrative, critical and non-systematic nature was carried out in the SciELO, Pepsic, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases, in September 2024. The relevance of hardiness for Health Psychology was verified because it acts as a mediating variable between stress and health outcomes. For the health of university students, it was shown to be an important protective factor against illness related to academic stress. Finally, limitations of the theory and recommendations for its improvement were presented. The study of psychological variables related to adjustment in the academic context is fundamental for the development of effective interventions that promote the reduction of illness and dropout rates.
