Psychopedagogical view on the old age

Abstract

This article brings a reflection about the psychopedagogical action with the elderly, from experiences with elderly groups and a diagnosis of their structure and functioning. This diagnosis is from an exploratory research with 17 coordinators of elderly groups. The results point to alternatives of more suitable educative actions. In this sense, the article highlights the role of psychopedagogues in the mediation of the human being permanent process of learning. It tries to show that old age is a stage to live, to coexist, to seize on other reasons, reinvesting in new situations of action and learning. Thus, it tries to seize up the psychopedagogues’ action, articulating with professionals from other related areas in order to accept, to pay respect and to legitimize the elderly history, recognizing their experience, their wisdom and their existential perspectives, investing on knowledge production and on the gerontology action.
