Abstract

Results on the invention and application of a game with rules, prepared by researchers, involving accents on words in Portuguese, are provided. This current essay aims at demonstrating its capacity for improving the understanding of the theme, coupled with the process of psychopedagogical intervention. The starting point consisted of results from research and official data on poor learning performance in several school subjects. Reflections on teaching methodologies are of paramount importance, as several studies have shown that games as didactic resources can improve students' performance in different areas of knowledge.The pilot test involved three students from public schools in Maringá, Paraná, Brazil, specifically those in the 4th and 5th grades. Preliminary results demonstrated that psychopedagogical intervention using games with rules is an asset in the process of raising awareness about accentuation rules and contributes to the betterment of essential cognitive schemes for knowledge construction. The importance of such a methodology for the teaching and learning process, both within and outside the school, is emphasized.
