Impacto do uso excessivo de redes sociais no desempenho escolar

Apesar de a Internet e as redes sociais servirem como meio de interação para diferentes públicos, os adolescentes mostram-se especialmente vulneráveis aos impactos multifacetados do seu uso problemático. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o padrão de uso da Internet para redes sociais entre estudantes do Ensino Médio e suas associações com o seu desempenho acadêmico. A metodologia do estudo se baseou em um delineamento transversal com uso do método de levantamento de dados (survey). Participaram 93 adolescentes dos 1º e 2º anos do Ensino Médio, com idades entre 14 e 18 anos. Foram coletados dados sociodemográficos, foi avaliado o perfil de uso da Internet e aplicada uma versão do Internet Addiction Test (IAT) adaptada para investigação de uso problemático de redes sociais. Os resultados indicaram que a maior parte da amostra fazia uso moderado (70%) da Internet, com 7,8% apresentando nível grave/dependência em seu uso. Houve correlação negativa significativa entre o desempenho acadêmico e escores de dependência. Em contrapartida, o desempenho escolar não se associou significativamente ao turno de uso da Internet para redes sociais ou seu uso durante horário escolar. Conclui-se que o impacto negativo das redes sociais no desempenho acadêmico está mais associado ao grau de dependência do que ao horário de uso da Internet, indicando fatores centrais para intervenção.
